Beca - Solomon Islands Bridge Investigations
Southern Geophysical conducted surface geophysics investigations at two proposed bridge locations on the Fiu and Ravo Rivers, in the Solomon Islands
The surveys were to assist with bridge design and to determine geotechnical properties at the proposed bridge abutment sites.
At each bridge location active and passive Multi-channel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW), Seismic Refraction Tomography (SRT), and Horizontal to Vertical Spectral Ratio (HVSR) was undertaken.
The geophysical results showed the depth to crystalline bedrock and allowed a detailed model of the shear wave (Vs) and compression (P) waves around the abutment to be determined without the need for drilling, which allowed further design work to be undertaken.
