Rāpaki Urupā
Southern Geophysical has been conducting burial investigations for over 20 years throughout New Zealand
Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke engaged Southern Geophysical to identify unmarked burials within the Rāpaki urupā.
The site was surveyed using ground penetrating radar (GPR) and a magnetic gradiometer, which successfully identified a number of burials. Southern Geophysical provided a report with the findings, maps, annotated radargrams and photographs along with a 2D digital format exchange file that can be incorporated into any GIS software.
Southern Geophysical respected the urupā as tapu and followed the correct tikanga at this site.
