Southern Lakes Cemeteries
Southern Geophysical has been mapping cemeteries throughout New Zealand for more than 20 years
Established cemeteries in New Zealand date back nearly two centuries and unmarked burials are relatively common.
Southern Geophysical surveyed cemeteries at Queenstown, Frankton, Wanaka, and Albert Town for the Queenstown Lakes District Council with the objective to identify and map unmarked burials or areas of disturbance related to burials. The Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) surveys were a resounding success and highlight the importance of this survey as regional and local government including district councils plan for the future as plot spaces become less available.
